I had a good time today at the Puerto Rican Day Parade in Hartford, CT. I'm not really one to go to a parade because I don't like standing around in a large crowd looking at floats, however, today I found out that I actually love being in a parade. It didn't hurt to have an ice cream truck full of ice cream. It didn't hurt to have a street team to hand the ice cream out and did I mention there was a DJ on the truck blasting all the latest music that the people love? After waiting for around three hours for set up, the parade was off. Up the hill on Wawarame you could see the large crowd and Puerto Rican Flags waving in the air. By the time we hit the corner and started handing out ice cream sandwiches, the ice cream truck was swarmed by hungry ice cream lovers. It was pandemonium! I was concerned that I might run someone over by mistake. Fortunately, after ten minutes, all 700 ice creams were gone and we hadn't even got to Main Street. Whew! The rest of the ride was calm and I was able to see the pride of the Puerto Rican people. Proud of their day. Proud of their flag. Proud to be Puerto Rican. I liked that. I look forward to returning again next year. I didn't get many pictures...I was driving. Never Stop Dreaming! |
