Last Friday, my son Amir and I pulled out of Hartford with plans to go to Philadelphia to give a speech on "Never Stop Dreaming" and to be a part of the first YUK (Youth's Undeniable Knowledge) Conference. To be honest, I was just going down because I was asked to by my friend Gabe but when I got there, I learned the group of men that came together to form YUK were something to be reckoned with. I watched as they came together to do a walk through the school men treat each other with respect and love. They had special handshakes and did not seem worried about extending their hugs for longer than the normal pat on the back. It was a good feeling to hear them talk and reminisce about their college days at Cheyney University of Pennsylvania. As we put together the gift bag and ate dinner, I was even more impressed as their wives and children joined in with loving kisses and hugs. When we pulled up to the hotel later that evening, I told Gabe that I believed he had something special with these men and if they stick together, they can change their community.
On Saturday, the conference was great! A good start to what will eventually come. Workshops were done, information was shared and speeches were given. Then there was the ride home. I hate traffic! The next morning, I was up bright and early for the Kidney Walk and Ice Cream for a Dream. Check out the pictures from the weekend. By the way, Philly has some great murals! Never Stop Dreaming! |
