About a month ago, I was doing Ice Cream for a Dream at Martin Luther King School in Hartford, CT. So, the kids are sharing their dreams..."I want to be a doctor", "I want to be a basketball player", "I want to be a nurse." Then, a little boy comes up and he says, "I want to be a better reader." This dream immediately caught my attention and I responded to the boy by stating, "If you want to be a better reader, I have written a children's book and I will bring you a copy." I later told his teacher that I would be bring a few copies of my book "The 7 Secrets of Super Heroes" and read it to her class the following week. So, the next week, I showed up to the class and read the book and gave all the students books. Then, I decided to go back the next week and read them my book "The New Bird" and I did. Then, I decided to bring them and read them my coloring book "My Dad's a Black Super Hero". Finally, this week, I returned to read them one of my favorite stories of all time, Where the Wild Things are". Next year, I will continue with Ms. Springer's class and follow the other students to the third grade. Today, the class surprised me with a copy of their year book. It was all a dream but I hope in the future it will be much more. Shout Out to Ayman for having such a wonderful dream. Now get to reading.
